View Full Version : "War (or War)" Filming Sessions Thread

First off, if you don't know what "War (or War)" is, read this thread (http://halopen.net/forums/showthread.php?t=28) first.

Finished?

Good because it's time to talk about filming sessions. For those unfamiliar with how we do things here at Halopen (or for those who may have forgotten), we (or mainly just I) set up scheduled filming sessions here and there, and you just show up and do what you need to do. This project is no different. Every so often, I will post a filming session or two a week in advance, so remember to check back to this thread when you see it has a new post.

Do not post in this thread telling me whether you can or can not come to a filming session! It will count as spam!

----------

"War (or War)" has a total of 25 scenes/skits/sketches, and the longest ones run no longer than 3 pages. So far (as of the posting of this thread), we've toppled 15 of those scenes! And for those trying to figure out the the math, that means we have 10 more scenes left to film. Now let's look at those as they're divided up into the "stories" from the movie...

'The Private and the Officer': 1 more 'standing around' scene which only requires two actors and a bunch of guest extras.

'The Passengers and the Pilot': Done and done

'The Two Soldiers': 3 scenes out of the 5 still have to be done for this story. 2 scene are just like the others we've been doing (shooting with as many people up at the 2 actors). And the last scene is going to need 7 actors in total (plus some back up shooters).

'The Prime Minister, His Advisors, and the Ambassador': Actually, we finished all 6 of these scenes!

'The Convoy': 4 out of 4 scenes remain. 3 of them need 3 actors to operate vehicles and 3 to head bob. The last scene is about the same except 1) we need an extra person 2) there's a lot of battle choreography.

----------

The next filming sessions (and final ones for this November) are...

Saturday, November 14 @ 4PM ET (3PM CT, 2PM MT, 1PM PT, 9PM GMT)
Sunday, November 15 @ 4PM ET (3PM CT, 2PM MT, 1PM PT, 9PM GMT)

Okay, here's an update on everything.

Though we didn't film much during our last filming sessions (damn you Modern Warfare 2!), I did get to go through what we have done. First off, when I went through a couple of films, I did notice for one of them that costumes were off, so we'll have to refilm it. Don't worry, it's just a two person scene.

But you can think about that later. There won't be a single filming session until after Halopen Birthday Week. So, enjoy the time off, but don't get lazy. ;)

I thought it was more like the Satan of games that made everybody not want to come to filming sessions.

Okay, so I've got some more filming sessions to add.

Saturday, December 5 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 2PM MST, 1PM PST)
Sunday, December 6 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 2PM MST, 1PM PST)
Sunday, December 13 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 2PM MST, 1PM PST)

These will be the last filming sessions of '09, so let's do as much as we can!

Update: I have removed the Saturday, December 12 filming session.

Things were a little hectic on Saturday, but we did manage to get some work done; three scenes to be exact. Now that leaves us with eight more scenes to go!

And let's get as much done as possible for our last filming session of this year.

Sunday, December 13 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 1PM PST, 9PM GMT)

Ready to get some a' filming a' done? I hope so. We need to finish this thing up soon. I've got two sessions for you all...

Saturday, January 9 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 1PM PST, 9PM GMT)
Sunday, January 10 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 1PM PST, 9PM GMT)

And we still have eight more scenes to go. It would make me happy to get at least three of them done.

Well, again, nothing got done this week.

1) In order to do what we need to do (aka make movies), people need to show up. This is why I send the multiple messages. I know some people have legitimate reasons, but we need to get this done. I don't want to have to cancel another movie, and I definitely don't want to start booting people.

2) Listen to me during filming (you know who you are). I know filming can get tedious after some time and you need to goof around a little, but when I say it's time to go, it's time to go. This goes especially for filming the other night. We were doing a scene for about an hour, and we had to switch out an actor for another. We had everything set up for the scene. Then a particular person runs right in with a Warthog and ruins that whole hour or so of filming. It's not only a waste of my time, it's a waste of the other actors' times.

Now that that's over with, I have some more filming sessions for you all...

Friday, January 15 @ 7PM EST (6PM CST, 4PM PST)
Saturday, January 16 @ 7PM EST (6PM CST, 4PM PST)

seriously...the goofing off has to stop, like when we made the ad video I was about to snap. Just a fair warning doing filming on fridays at that time can be a pain in the ass for some, remember schools up for some people and people usually use fridays to study or hangout with friends after a stressful week. just sayin.

It took us a while, but we did manage to get one scene done and filmed. Now we just have... Let me see... Seven scenes left... And we're going to need improved filming attendance to finish up these last scenes or else...no more movie. So let me toss out some new filming sessions

Sunday, January 24 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 2PM MST, 1PM PST, 9PM GMT)
Saturday, January 30 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 2PM MST, 1PM PST, 9PM GMT)
Sunday, January 31 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 2PM MST, 1PM PST, 9PM GMT)

We need to finish filming on this project, so please please please come.

Filming went decently well last weekend as we did two scenes. That leaves...five more scenes to film! Awesome. We've got three scenes with the Two Soldiers hiding from the continuous barrage of bullets and tank shells. The more people we can get for these scenes, the more action we'll get, and the more awesome it'll look. There's also an additional, simple dialog scene that requires three actors and a few guests. And then there's the big finale which needs four to five actors and a guest or two. There's vehicles, lots of shooting, and it's going to be incredibly awesome looking when it's put together. We're pretty much on the home stretch here, so let's try to knock out the rest of this movie, shall we? How about we wrap this up before the end of the month?

Saturday, February 6 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 1PM PST, 9 GMT)

That'll be the only filming session this weekend. Be there. Or someone will get hurt.

I would like to thank Mr. Venom, Mr. Dustar, and Mr. Chief John for coming to filming...since they were the only ones to come and didn't get anything done because we needed more people. I've minimized the amount of live actors I need to the bare minimum, so we need more people to come in order to finish this movie. If we finish this movie, I can put it all together and finish it and release it, we can optimize on other projects, and I'll be happy. I don't want to end up canceling another
project after so much work. I really want Halopen to release another machinima, so let's get to work, come to filming, and finish a movie again.

I've got three more filming sessions for you:

Friday, February 12 @ 6PM EST (5PM CST, 3PM PST, 11PM GMT)
Saturday February 13 @ 4PM EST (3PM CST, 1PM PST, 9PM GMT)
Friday, February 19 @ 5PM EST (4PM EST, 2PM PST, 10PM GMT)

Um...looks like I have to cancel filming for tomorrow as well. But, even though it'll be Valentine's Day, look out for me to do some filming on Sunday the 14th @ the usual time of 4PM EST (3PM CST, 1PM PST, 9PM GMT).

Well, only Mr. Fuzz showed up to last Friday's filming, so...nothing got done...again. Still five scenes to do... Still need people to finish those scenes up... And my certain availability for filming session is dwindling... So, I'm going to have to implement filming sessions on the fly. In other words, if I'm on and see a lot of Halopen members on, I'll muster up a filming session because we need to finish this. Filming with Halo 3 is coming to a close in about 7-8 months. Halo: Reach is coming out, and I would like for us to fit in whatever projects we have in. Personally, I would love it if we finished filming this before May because I know you all want to go crazy with the beta. I know I want to. So, if I'm on, and you get a message from me, that most likely means we've got filming and you probably need to come.

But I do have one filming session planned though I may add more if I can.

Saturday, March 13 @ 4PM EDT (3PM CDT, 1PM PDT, 9PM GMT).

I'm on all the time on weekdays though.. so if theres a few of us on, then like you said whack up a filming session.

Well, as with the last couple of filming sessions, nothing got done in the last two filming sessions (particularly the Saturday one). We had the people. People were already on at 3PM EST. People even came on a little after. But. We were held up by a single person because they "didn't want to do filming".

1) We're a machinima clan first and foremost. Filming is what we do. Working on machinima is the reason Halopen exists and the reason why most of you joined. That's how projects get done. When the projects are done, we get more attention, we get more activity, and we sometimes get more members. If we don't get any projects done, I feel like we've precious wasted time (including other members' time).

2) As I've repeated multiple times, I want to get filming done before the beginning of May. The beta comes out. People will want to play the beta. I want you all to play the beta and not worry about filming. Plus, it'll give me a bit of schedule to work off of and will give me time to do my little secret project. Now, if we can't finish filming "War" before the beginning of May, I will have to consider canceling this project.

More filming sessions will be posted soon.

New batch of filming sessions and the last ones for March!

Friday, Mach 19 @ 5PM EDT (4PM CDT, 2PM PDT, 10PM GMT)
Saturday, March 20 @ 4PM EDT (3PM CDT, 1PM PDT, 9PM GMT)
Sunday, March 21 @ 4PM EDT (3PM CDT, 1PM PDT, 9PM GMT)
Sunday, March 28 @ 4PM EDT (3PM CDT, 1PM PDT, 9PM GMT)

And after all of that, we only have five weekends left to finish up before the Reach beta. I'm pumped and ready for some great filming sessions.

Filming for Saturday, March 20 has been canceled. The other filming sessions are still in place...for now...

Sorry about the lack of filming sessions this weekend. Next Sunday's filming shouldn't suffer from cancelation and what not.

Firestorm12
April 1st, 2010, 11:03 PM
Alright, well, the last group of filming sessions crapping out were my fault since I decided to schedule them on days where I wasn't sure whether or not I'd be available. I'm sorry if I wasted anyone's time in waiting for filming to start. But...hopefully, with a month to go until the Reach beta, we can still film five scenes.

If you're worried about doing head bobbing lengthy dialog, you don't have to fret too much since these last scenes are mostly battle scenes. So, if you hate head bobbing, you can pick up a gun and fire away at head bobbers (without hitting them of course...except in one scene :D). About two pages of unfilmed script are head bob focused.

Now...onto the filming sessions...

Saturday, April 10 @ 4PM EDT (3PM CDT, 1PM PDT, 9PM GMT)
Sunday, April 11 @ 4PM EDT (3PM CDT, 1PM PDT, 9PM GMT)

This is the final leg before a break in filming, and I have high hopes to complete filming before the end of March. Let kick filming's ass!

On a more serious note, I would like to thank everyone who came to the "War" filming session over the past months. Without you, we wouldn't get a damn thing done. So, thank you very much. Now, time to go into post-production mode. Voice actors, where are you?
